JOB DESCRIPTION - HUSBANDRY AIDE

POSITION SUMMARY:  The part-time Husbandry Aid position is an entry level role, part of the Live Exhibits team that assists aquarium biologists with daily maintenance of animal exhibits, back of house areas, water quality, life support systems, food preparation and guest interactions.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists with daily care and maintenance of live exhibits including diet preparation, live foods, feeding, life support maintenance, water quality measurements, and cleaning in accordance with established protocols.

• Assists husbandry staff with accurate data entry in daily records for aquarium systems, exhibit specimens and water quality related paperwork and digital logs.

• Performs various cleaning activities to include sweeping and mopping floor space, vacuuming carpeted areas, and cleaning dive locker.

• Participates in and delivers interactive programming for guests including public presentations involving exhibits and behind the scenes areas.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience 

• High School diploma or general education degree (or equivalent education and experience) is required.

• Preferred candidates working towards or possessing a two- four-year degree in a life science related field (i.e. Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology, Aquarium Science) at an accredited academic facility.

• Preferred one year animal care or husbandry experience.

 

Availability Requirements

• Shifts 7:30am – 11:30am with one weekend day of availability required.

• Willingness to work outside of normal scheduled hours (i.e. weekend days, holidays, special events, after hour animal related activities or emergencies).

COMPENSATION

• Part time non-exempt (hourly)

• PAY RATE: $11.00/ hour
